about

Testing my microphone during setup before a 2018 gig at the University of Notre Dame, I started singing “Isle of Innisfree,” an old song I remembered from childhood. Jimmy Moore, having been given no notice, joined beautifully on guitar and suddenly, in the quiet of that room, we were inhabiting the song. My Dad would say it was “ethereal.” We knew we would have to record it someday.

I recall with delight my grandfather “Papa George” Sullivan (1894-1979) singing the song at family gatherings in our living room. Little did I know, this would also turn out to be a favorite song of my father-in-law (Thomas J. Maloney 1928-1986).

When we went to Victor Sanders’ wonderful studio in Lakeview a few months ago, we added “The Glory of Love” (another Papa George favorite) and “Over The Rainbow.”

Two of my cousins (and Papa George “grandsiblings”) help out here. Matt O’Connor adds awesome harmonica to Glory of Love, and cousin Peggy Macnamara again comes through in spectacular fashion on the cover art. Jimmy Moore is inspired throughout on multiple instruments, with gorgeous help from John Williams and Tim Mulvenna.

Hope these songs help move us into Spring and out of Covid. And bring some joy along the way.

God Bless. Happy St Patrick’s Day.
